Physical therapy concentrates on improving a child’s performance of gross motor skills allowing them to gain more independence and greater ease in movement in their environment. A physical therapist will work on assisting children to reach their developmental milestones by working on strength, endurance, coordination, balance, posture, body awareness, motor planning and motor control. Treatment sessions in physical therapy may include therapeutic handling, manual techniques, myofascial release, stretching and age-appropriate activities including obstacle courses, toys and gross motor games.

A physical therapist assists children with motor delays to develop the confidence they need to walk, run, play and explore their physical environment.
